Graduate Student Researcher Opportunities 2008
The Center for Labor Research and Education (Labor Center) is a public service and outreach program of the UC Berkeley Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (formerly the Institute of Industrial Relations). Founded in 1964, the Labor Center conducts research and education on issues related to labor and employment.
The Labor Center's curricula and leadership trainings serve to educate a diverse new generation of labor leaders. The Labor Center conducts research projects on topics such as job quality and workforce development issues, and works with unions, government, and employers to develop innovative policy perspectives and programs. We also provide an important source of research and information on unions and the changing workforce for students, scholars, policymakers and the public.
Labor Education, Leadership Development Training
The Labor Center seeks to hire a graduate student to work on the California Lead Organizers Institute. This program offers leadership development training for labor and community organizations from throughout the state.
The student will be responsible for coordinating logistics for the program as well as assisting in recruitment of participants. The incumbent will also have limited responsibilities for developing curriculum.
The position will entail:
- Event planning, including managing logistics for the in-residence program
- Mailing, e-mail, phone outreach to potential participants
- Limited assistance with curriculum development.
Job Qualifications: Graduate student in Public Policy, Sociology, Urban Planning, Economics, Political Science, Education, other social sciences, professional schools or relevant disciplines; proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word applications. Demonstrated experience in event planning and coordination is desired.
This position is for Spring 2008 and will be 49% FTE. Pay is commensurate with experience and union scale.
