Karen is part of the Labor Center's Leadership Development Team. In her work she concentrates on strengthening and developing new ties between the Labor Center and the university's students, faculty, and staff. She runs the successful Labor Summer internship program, and also leads several other leadership development workshops. Prior to joining the Labor Center, she worked for 10 years at SEIU 616 with homecare workers, where she focused on developing members' leadership capacity as they undertook various campaigns. She also worked in Washington, DC for the National Academy of Sciences as coordinator of the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship and the Pew Health Policy Program. Karen has a Master of Social Work in community organizing from San Francisco State University.
