Mariam is the Communications Director at the UC Berkeley Labor Center, where she brings more than a decade of experience in building visibility, creating high-impact campaigns, and amplifying the organization as a leader on issues related to labor and employment.
Previously, Mariam was the Director of Communications at the Dream Corps, a social justice accelerator led by Van Jones. Mariam has also served as the Director of Marketing at Give2Asia, a social enterprise with a network of over 2,000 grant recipients and $300 million in grants to in 25 countries in Asia. Prior to that, Mariam was the Director of Communications at the Asian Law Caucus, the nation’s oldest Asian American civil rights organization. At ALC, she led the organization’s communications strategy, branding, and public relations, exponentially growing its national media coverage. Mariam has also worked closely with leaders in Silicon Valley at Parsa Community Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to community-based social entrepreneurship.
An early adopter of new media, Mariam has been blogging since 2001, was a contributor to NBC Bay Area, and speaks frequently at events about the power of new media and social impact. She holds a Master and Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from San Francisco State University.
