Black Employment and Unemployment in April 2010

The unemployment rate for Blacks was 16.5 last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was unchanged from March when unemployment in the Black community also stood at 16.5. For the nation as a whole unemployment rose to 9.9 in the month of April. This increase was due largely to people who re-entered the labor force seeking jobs. Among whites unemployment was 9.0; among Latinos unemployment was 12.5. Comparable March 2010 figures were 9.7; 8.8; and 15.7 respectfully.
