Black Employment and Unemployment in February 2013
The unemployment rate for Blacks was 13.8 percent last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released Friday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was unchanged from January, when unemployment in the Black community was also 13.8 percent. For the nation as a whole, unemployment was 7.7 percent in the month of February; this was a decrease from January when the national unemployment rate stood at 7.9 percent. Among whites, unemployment was 6.8 percent; among Latinos, unemployment was 9.6 percent. Comparable January 2013 figures were 7.0 percent and 9.7 percent respectively. Overall, total non-farm payroll employment increased by 236,000 jobs from last month.
