Black Employment and Unemployment in July 2010

The unemployment rate for Blacks was 15.6 last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was virtually unchanged from June, when unemployment in the Black community also stood at 15.4. For the nation as a whole, unemployment remained at 9.5 in the month of July. Among whites, unemployment was 8.6; among Latinos, unemployment was 12.1. Comparable June 2010 figures were 9.5; 8.6; and 12.4 respectfully. Overall, payroll employment fell by 131,000, driven by the loss of 143,000 temporary Census jobs.
