Black Employment and Unemployment in July 2013
The unemployment rate for Blacks was 12.6 percent last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released Friday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was a decrease from June, when unemployment in the Black community was 13.7 percent. For the nation as a whole, unemployment was 7.4 percent in the month of July; this was a decrease from June when the national unemployment rate stood at 7.6 percent. Among whites, unemployment was 6.6 percent; among Latinos, unemployment was 9.4 percent. Comparable June 2013 figures were 6.6 percent and 9.1 percent respectively. Overall, total non-farm payroll employment increased by 162,000 jobs from last month.
