Black Employment and Unemployment in June 2010

The unemployment rate for Blacks was 15.4 last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was virtually unchanged from May when unemployment in the Black community stood at 15.5. For the nation as a whole unemployment fell slightly to 9.5 in the month of June. Among whites unemployment was 8.6; among Latinos unemployment was 12.4. Comparable May 2010 figures were 9.7; 8.8; and 12.4 respectfully. Overall payroll employment fell by 125000 driven by the loss of 225000 temporary Census jobs.
