Black Employment and Unemployment in March 2011
The unemployment rate for Blacks was 15.5 percent last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released Friday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was a slight increase from February, when unemployment in the Black community stood at 15.3 percent. For the nation as a whole, unemployment was virtually unchanged at 8.8 percent in the month of March. Among whites, unemployment was 7.9 percent; among Latinos, unemployment was 11.3 percent. Comparable February 2011 figures were 8.9 percent; 8.0 percent; and 11.6 percent respectively. Overall, total non-farm payroll employment increased by 216,000.
