Black Employment and Unemployment in November 2011
The unemployment rate for Blacks was 15.5 percent last month. This is according to the latest report on the nations employment situation released Friday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation report. This rate was an increase from October, when unemployment in the Black community stood at 15.1 percent. For the nation as a whole, unemployment fell to 8.6 percent in the month of November; this was a decrease from October when the national unemployment rate stood at 9.0 percent. Among whites, unemployment was 7.6 percent; among Latinos, unemployment was 11.4 percent. Comparable October 2011 figures were 8.0 percent and 11.4 percent respectively. Overall, total non-farm payroll employment increased by 120,000 jobs from last month.
