4—DAY CORE CLASSES

Basic Leadership Skills.
(Separate English & Spanish classes.) For new or aspiring leaders. Learn about leadership styles and how to make decisions, set goals, recruit help, and maintain balance. Effective communication skills will be emphasized alongwith internal organizing strategies to motivate and mobilize members to take action.

Advanced Leadership Skills.
For experienced leaders. Learn advanced communication and conflict management skills to settle disputes, build consensus, run effective meetings, delegate tasks, and facilitate groups. Learn how to identify, recruit, and mentor new leaders. Practice skills in public speaking and dealing with the media.

Organizing Skills.
Organizing workers to join and become active is key to the survival of American labor. Learn the basics of organizing and mobilizing: how to build a committee, choose organizing targets, identify issues of importance to workers,develop a campaign and its components (house calls, telephone banks, leafleting, etc.), and communicate the union message.

Multi-Media Communication.
Learn new ways to communicate your message using the latest technology. Find out aboutYouTube, Digital Storytelling, and other communication tools. Learn how to be concise and create simple and easy-to-convey messages. Participants are encouraged to bring their own digital equipment (camera, camcorder, or laptop).

Political Action.
Increase your political presence by running members for office and supporting politicians who support labor issues. Your union’s strength lies in your ability to activate and mobilize members for political action.
