Report on the State of Labor Education in the United States
by Barbara Byrd, University of Oregon
and Bruce Nissen, Florida International University
June 30, 2003
In February 2002 the AFL-CIO eliminated its education department
and began a process of studying how to carry out educational
functions in the future. That event was the impetus for this
study. The Report on the State of Labor Education in the United
States documents the current state of labor education, and
considers what it should be and how we might get there. This
comprehensive study is based on an examination of 44 labor
education centers and programs, 36 union internationals, and
12 regional and other affiliates.
