Danielle Mahones on The California Report. SF teachers are in their third day of a high stakes labor fight with the district, and they’re not alone. Across California, more local teachers unions are in active disputes right now, from bargaining breakdowns to strike authorizations and walkouts.

43% of district residents are enrolled in Medi-Cal, according to data from the UC Berkeley Labor Center.

The hospital sits in a swing district held by Republican Congressman David Valadao, and his stretch of the rural Central Valley also has the highest number of Medicaid patients represented by a House Republican – nearly two-thirds of residents here, according to research by UC Berkeley.

The UC Berkeley Labor Center found that California could expect to see between $10 billion and $20 billion fewer federal dollars per year coming to Medi-Cal. And that in turn would lead to major job losses

Nearly 1.5 million unauthorized immigrants lacked health insurance last year, the largest group of uninsured in the state, according to a report by the UC Berkeley Labor Center.
