New law helps California high school students know about their rights when applying for work

Julie Light directs the Labor Center’s communications team and media work. She is the press contact and chief communications strategist. As a passionate storyteller, she uses digital communications and the printed word to promote community engagement in the Labor Center’s cutting-edge research and education programs.
Prior to coming to the Labor Center, Julie was a communications consultant to environmental, labor, health, and education organizations. She served as a communications manager at Food & Water Watch working on issues ranging from banning fracking and urban drilling to protecting public water to fighting mega-dairies in California and four other states. Previously, she was a senior communicator working with union healthcare workers and frontline managers at the Kaiser Permanente Labor Management Partnership.
Julie started her career as a radio journalist and the medium is her first love.
