Katie Miles is a labor organizer with nearly a decade and a half of on-the-ground organizing experience. She has organized with educators, health care workers, and low-wage service workers. Before joining the Labor Center, Katie was most recently with United Teachers Los Angeles, where she spent four years organizing K-12 educators. At UTLA, she was an organizer on four supermajority strikes, at UTLA and other educators’ locals around the country. She coordinated district-wide anti-privatization organizing, including organizing educators and parents in the first successful fight to stop a proposed public school closure within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Katie has also worked as an organizer for SEIU District 1199 New England, Make the Road New York, and SEIU 32BJ. In addition, Katie has organized with community organizations, including the Debt Collective, Faith in Action Bay Area, and Mariposas sin Fronteras. She comes to the Labor Center with years of experience building supermajority structures, developing leaders, leading big and open bargaining, and organizing non-traditional workplaces.
