Join the UC Berkeley Labor Center for a timely discussion on how data-driven technologies are affecting workers and the need for worker technology rights.

In the growing conversation around technology regulation, not enough attention has been given to the protections that workers need and deserve. The use of data-driven technologies, such as electronic monitoring and algorithmic management, can have profound consequences for wages, working conditions, race and gender equity, and worker power.

You will hear from worker advocates talking about the challenges their members are facing in a wide range of industries—from intense productivity monitoring inside warehouse distribution centers to the micromanagement of hotel housekeepers at their jobs. We will then present a set of new policy principles from the Labor Center’s forthcoming report.

The event will be kicked off by special guest Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, a leading advocate for protecting workers in the 21st century workplace.
